Alberto,

RE: Right now, the computer is 30 km away from me.
Can you get someone to run a comand?

$ lspci -n
00:00.0 Class 0600: 8086:7192 (rev 03)
00:04.0 Class 0607: 104c:ac1e
00:05.0 Class 0300: 1002:4c49 (rev dc)
00:07.0 Class 0680: 8086:7110 (rev 02)
00:07.1 Class 0101: 8086:7111 (rev 01)
00:07.2 Class 0c03: 8086:7112 (rev 01)
00:07.3 Class 0680: 8086:7113 (rev 03)
00:08.0 Class 0401: 125d:1978 (rev 10)
00:09.0 Class 0200: 8086:1229 (rev 09)
00:09.1 Class 0700: 11c1:0445 <<< This is my supported Lucent V.92 modem

You need the section beginning with 11c1 for Lucent
        11c1:0445
Then scanModem can be run in a test mode on ANY linux box
./scanModem test 11c1:048c 11c1:044c redhat 2.4.7-10
                        2.96 2.96
data are: modem PCI ID subsystem distro
 kernel-varsion not_important

The only essential input is the modem PCI ID
    ./scanModem test 11c1:048c
would report a NOT- supported Lucent V.92 soft modem
   ./scanModem test 11c1:0445
would report a supported Lucent V.92 soft modem (mine in fact)
while
  ./scanModem test 11c1:0445 xxxx:yyyy redhat 2.4.7-10
would additionally report where to get the driver installer for Redhat
kernel version 2.4.7-10
