Not all of them. Especially in the 28.8/33.6 days, Winmodems were actually
fairly rare. I myself used a 56K USR Sportster internal modem for quite a
while with Linux. It wasn't a Winmodem. Also rememeber that a lot of
Sportster's are external (I didn't read this article carefully enough to see
if the guy mentions whether his is internal or external), and those are
never Winmodems because they use the UART that controls the serial port you
connect them to.
