RE: Subsystem=3D1543:4c21
has not previously been encountered=2E If Microsoft Windows is co-instal=
led,
please run the Modem Diagnostics as described in Modem/General=2Etxt=20
Mandrake has packages like:
slmodem-kernel-2=2E6=2E8=2E1-10mdk-2=2E9=2E9-1mdk
slmodem-2=2E9=2E9-2mdk
install them providing a new driver slamr=2E Then
# modprobe slamr
# dmesg | grep slamr
will output diagnostics for Subsystem=3D1543:4c21
or rerunning
=2E/scanModem
will then do the diagnostics for you=2E For details read Modem/SoftModem=2E=
txt
PLEASE so send us the Subsystem=3D1543:4c21 diagnostics
The slmodem packages should support your modem IF
they are not Conexant or Broadcom BCM64 types

Download software through:=20

Use slmodem-2=2E9=2E9 for service of non-SmartLink chipsets=2E
There may be a warning about a not-SmartLink modem as the drivers load=
=2E
But just proceed with modem functionality tests, as described in
ModemTesting=2Etxt
The softmodem codec identity is reported after slamr driver
installation by:
# modprobe slamr
# dmesg | grep slam
For guidance see slmodem-2=2E9=2E6 installation report:
http://linmodems=2Etechnion=2Eac=2Eil/archive-fourth/msg00176=2Ehtml
is cogent to both USB and PCI modems, except that for PCI modems,
the driver is slamr=2Eo and the port created with:
slmodemd --country=3DYourCountry /dev/slamr0
See IMPORTANT details concerning slmodem usage in Modem/General=2Etxt
If wvdial is being used for dialout, there must be added to
/etc/wvdial=2Econf
