Hello, as I said in the subject I am new in Linux world, but it's from 2
months that I am trying to make my internal 56k modem without success.
I have read almost all the files the ScanModem program created but I really
do not know what to do to make it works. I really do not find the
instructions in the files clear but it is surely caused from my
inexperience!
Please Can someone help me?
Thank You all

Vendor 14e4 is BroadCom =0A=
14e4:4212 is a BCM V.90 56k modem=0A=
There is a driver for 2.2.n kernels called BCOM_WAN_V20.=0A=
Search for it at http://www.dell.com =0A=
However the code has not been updated for some time.=0A=
For 2.4 kernels, fix by Giacomo Comes must be used. See :=0A=
http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/archive-third/msg01652.html=0A=
When serving under softmodem controllers like the Intel ICH series,=0A=
the Broadcom Subsystem 14e4:4d64 has mc97 codec BCM64.=0A=
For 2.6.n kernels, see success reports:=0A=
http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/archive-fourth/msg03690.html=0A=
http://oboc.ucdavis.edu/Marik/inspiron/ =0A=
The support is achieved through a combination of:=0A=
1) the snd-intel8x0m.ko of 2.6.n kernel releases, which provides a =
low level interface with the modem;=0A=
2) an slmodemd daemon which creates ports and provides higher level =
functions.=0A=
Get the slmodem-2.9.9d-alsa.tar.gz from =
http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/smartlink/=0A=
To compile the slmodemd, it is first Necessary to install a =
libasound2-dev package, providing alsa headers.=0A=
3) After compilation and installation of slmodemd, initiate service =
with:=0A=
# modprobe snd-intel8x0m=0A=

=0A=
Under the controller 8086:24c6 82801DB ICH4 ,=0A=
with modem subSystem 14e4:4d64 =0A=
Only ALSA mode usage of slmodem-2.9.n code may provide support.=0A=
=0A=

SmartLink at http://www.smlink.com/ owns vendor IDs 163c, 2000, 2003, =
and 2004=0A=
The official download site is: =

but http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/smartlink/ has older =
packages and new fixes.=0A=
For the emerging 2.6.10 kernels, use the slmodem-2.9.9d.tar.gz =
therefrom.=0A=
Also DO download the ungrab-winmodem.tar.gz=0A=
