Jonathan,
New case below: ATI 1002:4383 HDA controller
Obdurate,
PCI_bus
----------
00:14.2 Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc SB600 Azalia
00:14.2 0403: 1002:4383
Subsystem: 1028:01f5
Flags: bus master, slow devsel, latency 64, IRQ 16
----------------------------
houses your modem within the Subsystem: 1028:01f5
The diagnostics in:
/proc/asound/card0/codec#0
Codec: Conexant ID 2bfa
Address: 0
Vendor Id: 0x14f12bfa
reveal the common Conexant (the 14f1) Vendor Id: 0x14f12bfa modem chip.
supported only through the Linuxant hsfmodem drivers.
From http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/hsf/full/downloads-ubuntu-x86.php
download the hsfmodem_7.60.00.09full_k2.6.20_16_generic_ubuntu_i386.deb.zip
Under Linux
$ unzip hsf*.zip
Install with:
$ sudo hsf*.deb
and follow the output instructions.
Reboot (though may not be necessary).
$ sudo wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf
should find the modem.
Replace the <xxxx> blocks with your personal info using:
$ sudo gedit /etc/wvdial.conf
Then try a dialout with:
$ sudo wvdial
You will have to pay for the upgrade from test 14.4K to full speed service.
