Do you know the modem port(for the external serial)?

I hope that you have wvdial in your installation.
$ rpm -qa wvdial*

If you do have it installed, try

$ su -
password:
# wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf

should find the external serial modem port.  If you do not have wvdial
and want to try to connect using the serial modem, try the following
devices in KPPP

/dev/ttyS0, /dev/ttyS1, /dev/ttyS2, /dev/ttyS3,

and try to connect.  This will be easier if you plan to use the
external modem.  There are some sucess reports.  Here's one that might
