Somewhere, I think on the actual IBM Linux support page, IBM says they
are considering modem support, but it is unlikely that that will happen.

Would someone be willing to e-mail a nicely-written letter to IBM,
saying that if they can get the specs, the community is likely to write
a driver?  I used to do this but I don't have time anymore to chase down
the proper e-mail addresses nor look up Linux marketing statistics to
back up my letter.

Things as little as a friendly letter or phone call can sometimes
accomplish things not possible by wishing or Slashdot bitching.  ;)
