Hi my name is Edward, i have red hat 7.1, and a pctel modem, but this is a 
built-in of my main board PC100,
firstable i don't know what is my chipset and how to know it
i tried to do this step:
./configure --with-hal=pct789
and i tried with all the chipset that you gave but  the result was allways 
the same:
cheking....
cheking....
cheking....
cheking....
cheking for /use/scr/linux/include/linux/modverdion.h no configure: error: 
modverdion.h is missing - YOU SHOULD CONFIGURE YOUR KERNEL FIRST.
