I would like to involve myself in this project by testing/bug
reporting/maybe_coding/maybe_beer(!). I have two PCs and one winmodem, and
by buying a second one, I'd like to interconect boths PCs. I don't want to
use the regular phone line because it's expensive (I'm in Belgium).
Does anyone have information or circuit schematics in order to make a Phone
Line Emulator? I had one article in "Electronics Now" a while ago, but I
lost it.

Another topic:
AFAIK, winmodems emulate UART. Am I right? If so, I guess it's possible to
configure DTE speed at 230.400 bps. My serial port can achieve it, and it
has an UART (16550), so maybe it's possible to get the same on the winmodem.
From "Notes" in
ltmodem-0.9.7-1.tar.gz :

"For example, PCs using V.34 modems (with V.42bis data compression) should
have their serial ports set to 4 x 28,800 bits/s = 115,200 bits/s, as shown
in the accompanying figure."

So for 56K its about 230.400 bps.(57.600 x 4)

When I try to change this in windows for my Lucent 56K (PCI, aka mars)
winmodem, its maximum is 115.200bps. Is it a just a driver issue (uart
emulation limit) or is it a physical limit? Could we achive 230.000bps in
ltmodem?

Thanks for your help. And please, don't flame me for using windows.
