Well, I managed to get the older, earlier drivers out without nagging this
mailing list about it...

And I managed to get the rpm package hcfpcimodem-0.96(etc) installed without
any (obvious) hicups. However, now I'm getting the ever-so-helpful "failed
to activate device" error with RH's PPP dialer. I've tried using
/dev/modem, /dev/ttySHCF0 and /dev/cuaHCF0, none of them work. I've checked
the permissions on these devices and they're all identical to the rest of
the tty* devices (ie not root/root, I just forgot the name of the group they
belong to).

Does anybody have any advice? Is there any way I can get a more informative
error message?

FYI, it's a Diamond modem by packaging.
