Excellent! Send us the log of your wvdial failure. We'll go right away
to the solution.
What do you mean by wvdial not working on your laptop? Does not exist
(not found)? does not succeed connecting?

  Please do as follows.
1-send the file /etc/wvdial.conf (hiding the phone number, username and
password values of course)
3-prepare a new file to be edited
4-prepare a window to run wvdial as root (su)
  5-start wvdial
6-if it hangs, end it with CTRL-C
7-copy the material displayed by wvdial to the new file
8-using the same technique open yet a new file and copy to it the part
of /var/log/messages starting with the modem loading message and ending
with the closure of pppd.
9-send us the two new files.

If wvdial does not 'exist' (not found), use
  find / -name wvdial
to make sure that it is not there. If "find" finds it, start wvdial with
the full path.
If "find" does not find it, install it from your CD's or download from
the Web.
By the way it would be very strange if you have wvdialconf and not
wvdial, and it is absolutely useless to run wvdial if you have run
wvdialconf first (once only) and edited /etc/wvdial.conf

                                                    Jacques
