I have had this problem too, getting timeouts when
trying to upload files (except very small files). To
get around this, I disconnect, unload (rmmod) and load
again (modprobe) the modules (lt_modem and lt_serial).
After doing this, I'm able to upload any file. It
seems something is wrong with my modules.conf, but I
don't know what it is.
