  Yes, I have reported that, but I am not pretty sure whether I can
always repeat the scenario :) It seems to me that I can connect only
after booting and dialing from the console. After first disconnect, I am
not able to connect again. Very strange.

  I have tried to contact the author, but I did not get any response yet
:( I have also found a link to the AC97 modem controller driver (the
same reported here couple of days ago), but it is broken :(

  There is a driver for the touchpad on http://compass.com/synaptics/.
You can try it and then you have to configure X to use an another
external mouse (e.g. USB)

  I am giving up slowly and looking for some cheap pcmcia modem card :)
