Disable modem setup on bootup, because Mandrake sets a default
  /dev/modem --> /dev/ttyS0 or 1 or 2.
Or just as Root, during a current session:
# ls -l /dev/modem
to see the current symbolic link
# rm -f /dev/modem
if not /dev/modem --> /dev/tts/LT0 (under the device file system) of
/dev/ttyLT0 otherwise
# killall -HUP devfsd
so that the daemon will reread /etc/devfsd.conf
# ls -l /dev/modem
should now show:  /dev/modem --> /dev/tts/LT0
Read  /usr/share/doc/ltmodem-????/DOCs/DeviceFileSystem.txt  for
details.
