Concerning the several reports that ltmodem drivers compiled with gcc
3.xx do not function,

Our goal in updating the Linux driver for Mars has been to maintain
basic compatibility with the most popular Linux platforms.

I have tried using the compiler on Red Hat 7.3 and the standard Linux
8.22 release for the Mars driver compiles and installs as we expect it
to do.  So as of now we do not find an issue that we need to address
with our limited resource. FYI the compiler on Red Hat 7.3 is gcc
version 2.96.

We will again try our driver on the standard release of Red Hat 8.0,
which is about to be released.  If we find any incompatibility, we will
fix it.
