Subject: Debian - LT winmodem - Quantex TS30i / Inspiron 7000 help needed

Hi All, I'm a linux newbie, hoping for some help getting my winmodem
working.
Comuter: Quantex TS30i [ I think its really a Dell inspiron 7000 ], pentium
II
Operating system: Debian Woody, kernel 2.4.18-bf2.4
Modem: LT win Modem
Driver binary: ltmodem-2.4.18-bf2.4_8.00a3_i386.deb
The Driver installed as root, without errors. And I remember it saying that
a symbolic link was created for
/dev/modem --> /dev/ttyLT0
The BIOS allows switching of the modem port from [Off], [Customized], or
[Auto]
I have tried the customized, as well as auto settings with the same results.
In customized the settings were:
base i/o address: 2F8 IRQ3
configuration port: 130
16-bit DMA channel A: DMA7
16-bit DMA channel B: DMA5
Maybe I missed something obvious in the setup before this but
When I try as root:
#wvdialconf newdialconf
I get:
-------------
Scanning serial ports for a modem
Port Scan<*1>:LT0
ttyS0<*1>:ATQ0 V1 E1 -- failed with 2400 baud, next try 4800 baud.
.....etc...etc....
Port Scan<*1>: S1 S2 S3 ....etc...etc...
Sorry, no modem was detected! Is it in use by another program? Did you
configure setserial correctly?
-------------
Maybe my problem is not knowing how to use the setserial command, but when I
try:
#setserial /dev/modem
I get:
-------------
Loading Lucent modem controller driver version 8.22
Unloading Lucent modem controller driver version 8.22
/dev/modem: no such device
-------------
the results were the same when I tried:
#setserial /dev/ttyLT0
