Anand,

Please try the CONNECT with wvdial. Your ltmodem driver installation is
clearly fine now on your
  Red Hat Linux release 7.3 (Valhalla)   
with current Kernel-version 2.4.18-3
With modem
08:08.0 Class 0780: 11c1:0448 (rev 01)
 Communication controller: Lucent Microelectronics WinModem 56k (rev 01)


This following may be as simple as a User Password problem:

Its opaque why the kernel is calling for:
