Hooray! You got it!
Yes, you need to list the modules in /etc/modules.
You can also use modprobe to add them manually.

If you can ping by IP address, but not by name (google.com), it is a DNS
issue. Most ISPs hand out DNS addresses upon successful connection, but you
can always use your own in a resolv.conf file.

I dunno, perhaps the author of the page I quoted had installed some
additional RPMs?
